“Cinema is a matter of what's in the frame and what's out”

Martin Scorsese

I see video, like many others, as a form of expression. However, ironically sometimes, we must be open to be more closed, more focused to stick to the guidelines and that’s the excitement of knowing that one video does not define you or your style of filming. The truth is that the wider the range of experiences you’ve had, the better. This allows us to explore more and interpret other works as part of our path to discovering what is it that moves us, creatives, in an ever-evolving industry with so many content variations.

Change is good and the process of adaptation is the most interesting part of creation.

“In photography there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality.”

Alfred Stieglitz

Usually when photographing having I tend to enhance the details that we take for granted on a daily basis. I trully appreciate the use of natural resources such as lights and shades and I think it is important for the process that we adapt to natural conditions in order to benefit from them.

Photography, when practiced freely, is, from my point of view, influenced by our mood. I really like this form of expression and what I do while shooting goes through discovering myself whilst in different environments more than to force myself to photograph. If I had to choose a style of photography that fulfills my taste as creative, that would be people in urban / everyday environments simply because I believe there is great potential in both environments, not only individually but also when combined.

In this section I showcaset some examples of my interpretation of photography in diversified contexts.

My main areas of work

Camera operating

jon-flobrant-462801-unsplash.jpg

For some, a childhood dream, for others, the ambition of their lifetimes.

Regardless of the context, this is the art of bringing concepts to life.

Whether through a script on paper or, many times, in our heads, the camera operator has the ability to reach a different level of expression. An operator teamed up with other essential pillars of a project can make the audience stick the screens through shots that are not possible to obtain in the process of editing. the truth is that every team member completes each other and that's what makes a good production house.

Video editing

A fundamental part of the creative process is the assembly of the captured footage, allowing us creators to showcase the right previously structured idea. There are no boundaries to what we can imagine.

And if we can imagine, we sure must be able to reproduce, more than sticking to the script, Video editing is a process of genuine exploration of our creative senses.

Video production

Undoubtedly the very first contact with the project.

The video productions start long before lights being set and cameras being rolling.

It is, in many cases, where it all starts. Who has never felt like bringing together a group of like-minded people in order to achieve greater results as a team?

Well, this is something that fuels me. To have the opportunity of interacting with different ideas and points of view is a motivating reason to connect with creatives around the world.

About me

I believe that in this industry we all carry, with us, a bit of everything that happens in the creative process. Because, in fact, despite being able to practice several different functions within this profession, I am, above all, a creative. And this might bring the question "What is a creative?

A creative is, in most cases, a "daydreamer." Merely because he seems to believe in what sounds little possible to execute. A creative is someone who's moved by interaction and willingness to connect with other individuals, whether or not they share the same creative ideology, to bring new projects into the world or even to expand horizons and understand different points of view.

It will always be possible to draw lessons from our personal and professional experiences, but with every experience that we go through, the possibilities for creation increase along with our awareness, our abilities and the development of new skills. These are just some of the benefits.

Concerning the world, this gets smaller every day... Technology brings us closer and closer and as I, and you, there will be thousands of other creatives around the globe, in search of, precisely, people like us.

From my point of view, what should move us all is, again, the process. The art of creating or making "tangible" a shared vision, the technique of developing connections that go beyond the linguistic barrier and can only be explained through this creative expression which is the audiovisual.

“Both film and fashion are businesses where the audience doesn't feel or see the work that goes on behind the scenes.”

Tom Ford

I believe that, as important as what is happening on set, behind-the-scenes records are essential to show what lies behind the results.

From point of view is also an advantage for the teams that will always have a way to recall previously applied techniques, keep a record of the sets and, generally, remember past moments.

Although it is hard to assign a team member to fully focus on BTS footage I try to always keep a considerable amount of images in order to showcase my work context and what is, to me, an equally interesting part of the creative process.

What I use more often

Most of the times it is quite easy, as a creator, to get overwhelmed with all the gear... we always think that we need the best computers and the best equipment. The truth is that those items do improve our workflow but, nonetheless, remember that it’s still all about expressing yourself.

Acquire your gear as you go and make sure you breakdown the creative process and look for more affordable short-term alternatives when starting your career. You’ll get there, and you’ll appreciate!

Bellow, you’ll find a list of the gear I am mostly used to work with together with some of. Although I have experience in working with higher segment equipment, this is what I was able to proudly acquire over the years through working hard for it. For this reason I really appreciate every step of the process and I can’t wait to see what’s next… After all, we know it’s never enough and there will always be “just one more thing“.
